1. How do I register to vote in the City Council election? It’s not hard at all, but it does depend on when you register. Before Friday, Oct. 12, you can register at the County Courthouse or at City Hall. After that date, you can still register at the Courthouse if you vote absentee, or at the polls on Election Day at the Fairgrounds.
In all instances, you will need to complete an “Idaho Voter Registration Form.” It requires that you be a U.S. citizen, be 18 years or older, and have resided within the city limits for 30 days prior to the election. In addition to the County and City buildings, the “Idaho Voter Registration Form” is available online… www.idahovotes.gov/VoterReg/vtr_reg_form.pdf
To prove you are who you say you are, a valid picture I.D. (such as your driver’s license) will be needed. A current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or government document that shows your name and address will prove you’ve lived in Moscow for at least 30 days prior to the election. Yes. The same requirements listed above apply to you. But, you’ll be asked if you consider Moscow your permanent address. If you don’t, the County’s web site (www.latah.id.us) has a direct link under “Voter Registration” for you to find information from your home state. If it’s been a while since you last voted in Moscow, it would be wise to make sure you’re still registered. The Auditor’s Office at the Latah County Building keeps track. Call 882-8580 and ask for Victoria or extension 2278. You can request an absentee ballot in person or by phone from the Latah County Auditor’s Office in the Latah County Courthouse Building at 522 S. Adams or phone 882-8580. Requests for an absentee ballot to be mailed to you must be received by October 31, 2007. Just like at the polls, after October 12th you can register as you cast your absentee ballot in person at the Latah County Auditor’s Office. In-person absentee voting concludes at 5 p.m. on the day prior to the election. Ballots returned by mail must arrive by 8 p.m. on November 6 to be counted. The Latah County Auditor’s Office/Election Department oversees all elections in the county. They are also working with the City to help facilitate this year’s election. The Auditor’s Office staff (882-8580) is very helpful, as is their website www.latah.id.us.
